World Scholar’s Cup Xiamen Regional Round

Egret Scholars Soaring High

The World Scholar’s Cup Xiamen Regional round was yet again another fruitful harvest of medals and trophies for the Manila Xiamen International School family. Since the very first time MXIS students joined the WSC competitions in 2018 and became egret scholars, and the teams that passed regionals, global rounds and attended the 2019 Tournament of Champions in Yale University, students have brought home hundreds of medals and trophies. This year, 16 teams comprising of students from the 4th up to the 11th grade attended the Xiamen regional round on June 10 and 11 held in ITG-Shanghai United International School. With awards for the different events in the WSC competitions such as the Scholar’s Challenge, Bowl, Team Debate and Collaborative Writing, the Xiamen round was proven to be another rewarding experience with multiple awards and great memories.

For the past months leading in preparation for the upcoming competition, the MXIS WSC club conducted weekly trainings, practicing writing with given prompts, reviewing the six subject areas and practiced debate skills. With rigorous weekly trainings, cooperation, hard work and determination of the WSC coaches, club leader and scholars, the egret scholars of the Xiamen regionals developed their speaking skills, critical thinking and research skills, creative and technical writing skills and learned new fascinating knowledge.

During the span of the two-day competition, the MXIS egret scholars debated against multiple school’s teams in the Team Debate, tested their knowledge in the multiple-choice Scholar’s Challenge, collaborated with their teammates in the Scholar’s Bowl and wrote their inspirational thoughts in the Collaborative Writing. The trainings in preparation for the competition was proven to be a great advantage, as the students were met with outstanding results in the closing ceremony. The MXIS teams placed at the top of all areas of the competition, both in the junior and senior divisions. The junior division teams won trophies and medals and most had qualified to attend the global rounds, with one team ranking the 1st overall champion. The senior teams from MXIS ranked all 3rd, 2nd and 1st place overall champions, qualifying for the global rounds, with one senior team bringing back a total of 8 trophies for ranking top places in all the events in the competition and as individual scholars.

With insurmountable joy for their fruitful rewards and excitement for the upcoming global rounds, the MXIS egret scholars were proud to be a part of the World Scholar’s Cup Xiamen regionals experience and brought back awards, experience and unforgettable memories back home to their families, and pride and joy to the Manila Xiamen International School family.
