Heathers: The Musical

First Student-Organized Musical

On June 11, 2022, a student-organized musical performance was hosted at the multi-purpose gym of the Manila Xiamen International School. Cielo Go and the MXIS Heathers Team have planned this event for almost a year. The castings spent more than 6 months on memorizing their lines, recording musical song tracks, and familiarizing stage movements. Although the pandemic has limited the scale of event, more than 300 audiences visited this musical.

Model United Nations of Xiamen

One of the Longest Running MUN Conference in China

Established in 2009, Model United Nations of Xiamen is annually hosted by the Manila Xiamen International School. This conference first started at the school campus, and now hosted in big hotel venues that could fit more than 300 people. For the past years, delegates from different international schools around China have participated the conference. MUNOX once also offered online conferences for delegates outside the mainland China. Annually, the Secretaries-General are chosen to organize this massive event for students to develop their critical thinking, investigating, debating, and collaborating skills. The MUNOX 2022 marked the 13th anniversary of MUNOX, being one of the longest running conferences in China. The Model United Nations of Xiamen will continue to provide a platform for international students to work towards possible solutions to real world issues.

TEDxMXIS

An Event for the Xiamen Community

Last November 24, 2021, the TEDxMXIS Countdown was successfully held at SM Lifestyle Center in Xiamen. This event was organized by Kevin Yeo and his organizing team. 6 speakers from different industries have shared their inspiring ideas in relations to the current global climate issue. With the support of several local industries with the same goal of promoting a cleaner world, the event invited the whole Xiamen community to visit and listen to the TED Talks of the speakers. An estimate of 300+ audiences came on that day, who were students, teachers, parents, community leaders, industry leaders, and the other members of the Xiamen community, came to TEDxMXIS. Students also performed song performances and exhibited their artworks and photos.

MXIS MYP Authorization

SMC on School’s MYP Authorization

On January 2021, the Manila Xiamen International School was authorized as an IB Middle Years Programme school, which applies for students from Grades 6 to 10.

Last August of the year 2020, the Manila Xiamen International School officially received the request of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) department for a visit before being authorized and recognized officially as an MYP school. However, due to the pandemic situation, an online visit was planned and the school was requested to produce a school tour video to be sent to IB. With the supervision of the school IB DP coordinator Mrs. Eve Denise Coronel, IB MYP coordinator Mr. Raymond Meris, and school CAS and A&S coordinator Mr. Mitchel Africa, 7 members were chosen to take the responsibility to produce the school tour video. The team was given the name “Social Media Crew”. 

The 7 members from the MYP department collaborated, divided their roles, planned filming schedules, prepare filming setups, conducted interviews, and edited videos to be published. The students and teachers have actively supported the team to successfully produced an outcome. The video is currently published on YouTube.
