The Manila Xiamen International School table tennis team has participated in the 2023 Fujian International School Sports and Culture Association (FISSCA) badminton and table tennis tournament held on April 15, 2023, at Xiamen Ying Cai School.

Under the guidance of coach Antonio J. Hadap Jr. and the table tennis athletes’ efforts, every player is fired up and motivated to overcome the opposition. Due to the tournament, players are divided into the Under 15 (U15) group and the Under 19 (U19) group. The U15 athletes from our school are Aeson Go, Joel Song, Audrey Wong, and Mini Wong, and the U19 players are Sam Lin, Brian Moon, and Erik Ng. The athletes have participated in playing female and male singles, mixed doubles, and female and male doubles; through these, they could gain skills such as cooperating with others, communication skills, critical thinking, strategic skills, etc.

Simultaneously, with the assistance of coach Angie Lee and the endeavors of the badminton players, each player is enthused and full of sportsmanship. Furthermore, they have won several awards: U15 player Archi Lin was champion in male singles, and U19 player Rex Yu was second in male singles. These two outstanding players also finished second in male doubles. Steven and Steve Wu finished third in the male doubles after amazing teamwork. Finally, in the mixed doubles, our athletes Jacelyn Zhang and Archi Lin overcame all obstacles to win the champion’s place. Congratulations to all the players.

Our players have given efforts and keep practicing every day; their sportsmanship and the spirit of challenge are never less than that of a professional player; for them, their real opponents aren’t the excellent players from other schools but themselves; they are searching and discovering new things in order to overcome all difficulties and have perfectly demonstrated the spirit of patience, participation, and competition. So let’s look forward to these outstanding and hard-working athletes from MXIS. Soar high, egrets!
