The Manila Xiamen International School students have participated in Amoy I Model United Nations Conference 2022 (AIMUNC 2022), organized by AIMUNC Association from Xiamen No. 1 High School. This event was held from July 21 to 24 at the host school’s campus. During this 4-day conference, our students had communicated and collaboratively worked with delegates from different schools in Xiamen, including Xiamen No.1 High School, Double Ten High School, Xiamen Foreign Language School, and Xiamen University Affiliated Keji High school. 

Since 2008, with the aim of “Your Dream, Our Passion,” the AIMUNC Association has successfully hosted 15 conferences, offering a platform for enthusiastic students to join and showcase their skills in Model United Nations.  It was the first time MXIS students took part in AIMUNC which provided them with an opportunity to demonstrate the IB learner profile attribute of being a risk-taker.

Our school participants were assigned the United Nations General Assembly Emergency Special Session Committee to tackle the Russo-Ukrainian crisis with the time setting bringing back the beginning of war. Delegates negotiated the formal ceasefire once again while defending their interests in the positions of their representative countries. Through various intensive debates and lively discussions during this event, students were able to enhance their skills in debating, researching, collaborating, socializing, and being a leader, as well as presenting their knowledge and passion in global issues. But it was also a challenge to most participants, inexperienced in joining this kind of Model United Nations, which our school does not host.

AIMUNC 2022 was a feast of learning that allowed students to build self-confidence, and develop skills beyond the classroom by engaging, debating, socializing, communicating, and collaborating with students from different schools around Xiamen. More importantly, students have learned more about our world, various global issues, different cultures, and histories, and become internationally minded. AIMUNC 2022 successfully closed, revealing the excellent performances of MXIS students.
